This workshop covers bear encounter protocol and how to minimize risk.Featuring live demonstrations.

Workshop to develop gun safety habits for those visiting Anan privately, guides, and hunters.

2:30 PM - ART WORKSHOP - with local artist MICHAEL BANIA - NOLAN CENTER
Learn the basics of drawing bears from our 2018 Bearfest artist.

* Anan Bear tours will be provided by various local operators as well as merchant and local business specials. 


* Bearfest Raffle tickets for Systemwide tickets on Alaska Airlines will be sold by various sponsor businesses such as Angerman's, Alaska Vistas/Java Junkie,.... 


* Movies will be shown at 10am and 1pm 

at the Nolan Center in the Small Theater 

Day 3 - Friday July 27th

* 10:00am - PHOTO WORKSHOP - ROBERT E. JOHNSON - Nolan Center

  New directions in digital photography.


*10:30am - Kids event - "Read with a Ranger and Smoky Bear" - The Irene Ingle Public Library 


* 11:00am - Kids Event - Teddy Bear Clinic - The Irene Ingle Public Library 

Bring your favorite teddy bears to get their annual check-ups.


* 12:00pm - WMC 50th Anniversary BBQ - Hospital Gazebo


*   1:00pm - MOVIES -  Brave

* 2:00pm - NESSIE - Kids Games at the Swimming Pool. 

All Children Under 7 and NON- Swimmers Must Be Supervised!!


* 4:00pm - SMOKED SALMON CONTEST & SALMON FEED - JAKE HARRIS - Stikine Inn /Vendor Shelters-  

Local smoked salmon tasting competition and process discussion - winner get $100.00


 * 5:00pm -  Salmon Dinner. Fresh Wrangell Salmon prepared by Jake Harris of the Stikine Inn.   $20 per person suggested donation.

​*7:00am - 7:45am - 5K Walk/Run; 1/2 Marathon & FULL Marathon Registration Located at the Nolan Center 


* 8:00am - RACE START - Outer drive

SIMULTANEOUS  start of runners and walkers. 


* 12:00pm - Raffle Drawing - Nolan Center 

(after the first marathon finisher) The Raffle Drawing for the Systemwide Alaska Airlines tickets will take place.

Day 4 - Saturday July 28th

10:00am  - Golf Tournament - Muskeg Meadows  - Registration at 9:30am 

* 10:00am - 12:00pm - Community Market - Nolan Center 

Local vendors and artists. Bearfest Merchandise. 


* 10:00am - 12pm Kids Games at the Nolan Center

 Cub-o-war, bear free camping, twister, relays and more

* 11:00am - Music Workshop - Jam with the Matt Koerner Band - Nolan Center 

* 1:00pm  - MOVIES - The Silver Horde - 1936 film that included Anan
​   4:00pm - Spawn of the North - classic film about fishermen, filmed in Ketchikan and at Anan. 


* 2:00pm - Native Storytelling - Shakes Tribal House 

Traditional Stories told by tribe members.


* 5:00pm - Symposium - ROSS DORENDORF  with ADF&G - Nolan Center

Alaska's Brown and Black Bears -management and research.


* 6:00pm - Marathon Meeting  and Pasta feed- Nolan Center 

Registration, information, and food.
